Background

The CI library seeks to promote and enhance the understanding of the Chinese language and culture among Chinese learners in Zimbabwe by providing relevant literature and resources, and to promote Chinese language and culture instruction and research at tertiary, secondary and primary school level.

The Confucius Institute library provides a comprehensive set of Chinese language courses, from beginners to advanced level, and spoken Chinese for communication.   The library has more than 10000 volumes of books, dictionaries, audio/videos and other teaching or learning materials related to China.

Available Resources

Subject areas covered by the resources in the library are: Chinese language proficiency based text books (HSK); dictionaries; language learning and linguistics; art; geography and travelling; history; culture, anthropology and sociology; philosophy and religion; literature and study of literature; health, sport, cooking and children’s books.


The information sources can be categorized as follows:-

  • Reference Books

These books must be read in the library and are not available for borrowing e.g. dictionaries.

  • Reserve Books

These are the most heavily used books which would have been recommended by lecturers and they can be borrowed for two hours 09:00 am. They are borrowed from 14:00pm respectively and returned to the library the following day before 9:00am. Failure to comply attracts a fine.

  • Open Shelf books

These books can be borrowed for two weeks.

  • Short Term Loan

Materials on short term loan may be borrowed for short periods of up to 7 days.

  • Video & Audio materials

These materials are available for use in the Library and can be transferred as MP3 upon request.

Membership

The Confucius Institute Library is open to University of Zimbabwe students, members of staff and approved readers.

Opening Hours
  • Monday to Thursday : 0800 hrs to 1615 hrs.
  • Friday : 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs.
  • Closed for lunch between 1245hrs- 1400hrs
  • Saturday : Closed.
  • Sunday : Closed.

Public Holidays : Closed

Service
  • Library Orientation Tour

It is available to all new students and any other library user on request.
