The Map\u00a0Library staff will impart Information Digital Skills (IDS) to library users to enable them to become independent lifelong learners. Users will be in a position to effectively select, search and evaluate information sources. IDS training is a continuous process, and the duration and levels of training vary on the extent of need of different groups.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p><b>Reference Services\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p><p>The Map Library Reference Service provides assistance in finding and using printed and electronic materials. The Subject Information Specialist assists users in locating sources of information, selecting and using resources for reports, assignments and research, and learning to use library and information resources. Information Consultant at the reference desk also provide individual assistance to staff and students who want more detailed knowledge of information resources in a subject area. Please contact the Subject Information Specialist to set up this type of research consultation.\u00a0<\/p><p><b>Reference Management Training<\/b><\/p><p>The use of appropriate referencing and citation techniques is encouraged for students, researchers and staff so that they can achieve academic integrity by adhering to standards of academic writing and avoiding plagiarism. There are many referencing and citation styles. The Library provides training on the preferred style. For individual or group sessions on using the citation style, book an appointment with the Subject Information Specialist.\u00a0<\/p><p><b>Online Reference Management training<\/b><\/p><p>There are various software packages that one can use to help compile and manage references into a personal database or library, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/\">Zotero<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mendeley.com\/?interaction_required=true\">Mendeley<\/a>. These software packages allow you to import your references directly into your own database from many online sources such as electronic journals, electronic books, websites, and library catalogues.
