Home
Welcome to the Veterinary Science Library, a branch of the University of Zimbabwe Library. A dedicated knowledge hub for students, researchers, and professionals
engaged in the study and practice of Veterinary Medicine. The Library provides access to a rich collection of information and knowledge products and services that
support teaching, research, and learning activities at the University of Zimbabwe. These library resources are in line with Education 5.0, which encourages the
production of goods and services for the development of communities.
Available Resources

The Veterinary Science Library offers a comprehensive range of print and electronic resources to support teaching, research, and clinical practice in veterinary science and any other related veterinary science topics. The collection provides access to detailed content on Veterinary Biosciences, Veterinary Pathobiology, Clinical Veterinary Sciences, and Animal Production and Veterinary Medicine. The electronic resources are accessed via the Campus Access or Remote Access to ensure ease of access to support research and learning.

Print Resources 

To gain access to available print resources, one should physically visit our library in the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Mount Pleasant Campus. One can search for titles of interest through the University of Zimbabwe Library, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) https://uzlibsys.uz.ac.zw/ to identify and locate the print collections housed in the Vet Library.

To support the blended learning adopted by the University of Zimbabwe, access to online databases is provided to students, academics, and researchers. Our digital offerings are accessible 24/7 via the library portal.

The Veterinary Science Library is accessible to valid University of Zimbabwe students and employees, veterinarians, and Zimbabwe Veterinary Association members.

Research Support

Given that conducting research may be a challenging and complex process, especially for individuals who are just starting out, the Vet Library provides specialised support to scholars working at the postgraduate level and beyond. Research support is provided at many stages of the research life cycle, through the following services:

The following trainings are offered to help veterinary science students and Faculty members create a successful and rewarding research experience: 

Training services

 

Reference Management 

This training covers the use of reference management tools that help individual researchers or research teams in organizing and maintaining their references and citations efficiently. Examples include Zotero and Mendeley etc.

 

Literature Discovery 

· This training equips staff and students with the skills to conduct literature searches and develop effective search strategies to find relevant information. 

Tools for Research Collaboration 

The library offers training on various platforms that researchers can use to collaborate and share research materials, ideas, and experiences seamlessly. Examples include Research Gate and Google Drive. 

Research Impact Tracking 

· This training introduces tools that allow researchers to track the scholarly impact of their work by creating and maintaining professional online profiles where they can share and monitor their academic activities. One example is Google Scholar Citations. 

Publishing in Reputable Journals 

· The library provides training and guidance on using various tools to help researchers identify reputable journals for publishing their work. 

Research Communication 

This training offers tips on how researchers can effectively communicate their research to a broader audience, increasing its impact and visibility within the community
