University of Zimbabwe Press
The University of Zimbabwe Press is the official publishing house for all constituent units of the University system, and is the first university press in the country. Our mandate is to encourage, publish and disseminate scholarly, creative, and scientific works, including journals which commercial publishers would not ordinarily undertake to publish. The publication of books, monographs and research articles in journals is the core business of the UZP. Its functions include preparing manuscripts for publication and producing them in appropriate formats, editions and runs. University of Zimbabwe Press is also an integrated content manager and specialist supplier of publishing services, including copyediting and page/cover design for the higher education, tertiary and private sector markets.
The UZP is responsible for all matters related to publishing at the University of Zimbabwe, providing advice and assistance to academic faculties, departments, centres and institutions on publishing. The UZP handles the warehousing of all its titles and it has the further duty of ensuring that the books are marketed and brought to the attention of potential users throughout the academic world. Since its establishment the UZP has published important works by distinguished scholars that represent distinct contributions to knowledge. And this is in keeping with our mandate of making the best scholarly, creative, and scientific works, including journals, available in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Faculty participation and interest in helping the UZP to attract proposals and manuscripts is a great advantage to us. Currently, most manuscripts are sent to the UZP through the influence of the University’s Faculties and a few through recruitment by Acquisitions Editors and very few come without solicitation. All manuscripts go through double blind peer review and then recommended to the Library, Publications and Knowledge Management Committee for assessment and approval before they are designed and published.
